Helping the next generation bring a real marketing campaign to life.

As part of a partnership between the Social Mobility Network and the Social Mobility Business Partnership (SMBP), I had the privilege of hosting a group of 21 Year 10 students from Flintshire for a day of hands-on marketing experience. The SMBP organises a week-long placement each year, taking students around five local companies, one per day, giving them corporate exposure that would otherwise be out of reach. On Tuesday 14th July, it was our turn. The students were guided through a full campaign build from the ground up: starting with a brief, moving through concept development and design, and finishing with a complete set of deliverables including an email, a landing page, and a PPC advert. Real work, real process, real output.

The winning concept

The students brought serious creativity to the brief. After brainstorming a range of ideas and putting them to a group vote, they landed on Float on Finance, a cohesive campaign that showed both their imagination and their ability to collaborate under pressure.

Chester Zoo

With Chester Zoo right on the doorstep, keeping everyone inside all day would have been a missed opportunity. Over lunch, the students got to explore the zoo and the red panda quickly emerged as the unanimous highlight. Honestly, you can see why. It was a genuinely rewarding day and a reminder of the difference this kind of access can make for young people mapping out their futures.
